Hurd Windows and Doors has manufactured windows and doors by hand since 1919. Founded in Wisconsin by William and Harry Hurd, the company had its beginnings as a manufacturer of cheese boxes to supply Wisconsin's dairy industry. Hurd began making wood and aluminum clad windows and patio doors in the 1970s. In the 1990s, the company added vinyl windows and doors to its product line. Hurd products are marketed exclusively through over 400 distributors in the U.S. as well as in 20 countries internationally. Approximately 500 experienced craftsmen are employed by Hurd.
In 2008, Hurd Windows and Doors was purchased by HWD Acquisition when Hurd's parent company went into bankruptcy proceedings. HWD Acquisition is a subsidiary of Longroad Asset Management. Though the terms of the agreement prohibit the new company from covering the product warranties on previously sold windows and doors, HWD Acquisition created a Goodwill Assistance Program to cover product issues for windows and doors sold in the two years prior to the sale of Hurd in 2008.
